Top Quark Reconstruction

My first project during my Master's was on particle reconstruction for the proton-proton collider LHC.

The challenge is to reconstruct the particle collision events after they propagate through many layers of detector material. I was brought on to optimize part of the reconstruction pipeline. I designed a training optimization loop that simulated of proton-proton collisions, reconstructed events, evaluated the quality of the reconstructed data, and then iterated the parameters into the next trial.

This resulted in optimized reconstructed events far better than the default parameters nominally used.
